Africa football is growing with many nations improving in their overall FIFA rankings. The year 2019 proved to be a good year for nations including Algeria, South Africa, Madagascar, and Nigeria as they ranked as the biggest point winners.
Algeria’s exploits in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) saw them climb up 32 ranks to position 35 overall. They were also ranked the 4th best team in the continent. Currently, the African teams are playing the AFCON qualifiers and you could use these US betting codes on the various AFCON games.
Additionally, you can catch up with some of the stars from these nations at FanDuel while on their club duty. Some of the stars such as Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Riyad Mahrez represent big clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester City. While it was a good year for Algeria in 2019, how are the latest October 2020 FIFA rankings looking for African nations?

Here are the top 5 African teams in FIFA rankings:

Senegal
Senegal is the highest-ranked African team at the 21st spot, dropping one place after the 3-1 defeat in the hands of Morocco. The team put on great performances in the 2018 World Cup and was only eliminated for receiving more yellow cards than Japan. Senegal is also the first country to qualify for the 2021 AFCON. The team possesses great talent with most of its players playing in top-flight football. Their ace, Sadio Mane, plays for Liverpool, Idrissa Gana Gueye plays for Paris Saint Germain, Eduardo Mendy for Chelsea, while others such as Ismaila Sarr, Cheikhou Kouyate, and Kalidou Koulibaly have all come out as top players.

Tunisia
Tunisia’s 3-1 victory over Sudan and its 1-1 draw with Nigeria ensured that the country’s overall ranking remained unchanged. Currently, the country is ranked at the 26th spot and position 2 in the continent. Like Senegal, Tunisia also boasts of a quality squad with many of their players playing professional top-flight football in big clubs. Some of them include; Saif-Eddine Khaoui, Wahbi Khazri, and Omar Rekik.

Algeria
Algeria takes the 3rd position in the continent after beating Nigeria 1-0. The AFCON Champions 2-2 draw with Mexico saw them climb five places to 30th in the overall FIFA rankings. They have continued to record wins on their AFCON qualifiers and the quality of Riyad Mahrez and Said Benrahma is enough to propel them higher on the rankings.

Nigeria
Nigeria, on the other hand, has dropped three places and now ranks at position 32 overall. They have also dropped one place to 4th position in the continental rankings. Their 1-0 loss against Algeria and a 1-1 draw against Tunisia has not done them justice. They continue to underperform in the AFCON qualifiers and with the quality of big names such as Odion Ighalo, Alex Iwobi, and Victor Osimhen, they should be doing better.

Morocco
Morocco closes the list of the top 5 African teams in FIFA rankings. The team has climbed four places from the 43rd spot to the 39th spot overall. They rank 5th in the continent. Their 3-1 win against Senegal and a 1-1 draw against DR Congo were enough to see their overall ranking rise.
