Police in Kiryandongo District are holding Dr. Moses Baluku, 24, a doctor at Kiryandongo General Hospital, over allegations of extorting Shs150,000 from a patient who needed surgery.
Dr. Baluku was reportedly arrested on the orders of Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara following allegations that he demanded the money from the patient before the surgical procedure could be carried out.
The arrest comes amid concerns over alleged demands for unofficial payments from patients seeking medical services in public health facilities.
