Kampala Metropolitan Police has carried out an operation at Cooper Complex in the Central Business District, recovering more than 300 suspected stolen mobile phones and arresting 30 suspects, according to police.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said the operation followed intelligence that the building had become “a hub for individuals involved in the theft and sale of suspected stolen mobile phones.”

He added that the phones have been secured for verification while suspects and witnesses are questioned, and that those with sufficient evidence against them will be charged and prosecuted.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Uganda Police Force to combat the growing menace of mobile phone theft and the illicit trade in suspected stolen property,” Owoyesigyire said.
