The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is set to introduce a registration framework to guide Wi-Fi hotspot operators on licensing, pricing and compliance requirements, following consultations with industry players.
UCC Executive Director Nyombi Thembo said the proposed framework will include an online registration link through which operators can identify the category under which their businesses fall and access information on the applicable fees and registration requirements.

The initiative is intended to help operators understand their regulatory obligations and determine the requirements relevant to their businesses.
Under the proposed arrangement, operators will be able to establish their respective business categories and obtain guidance on the costs and procedures involved in registration.
The framework follows discussions between UCC and industry players on the regulation of Wi-Fi hotspot services, with licensing, pricing and compliance among the key issues addressed.
Further details on the registration process, applicable fees and specific requirements are expected to be provided through the planned registration platform.
