Young people from Uganda, East Africa, and across the African continent are expected to gather at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on Saturday, September 19, to celebrate President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s 82nd birthday and reflect on his leadership legacy.
The event, organised under the theme, “A Legacy That Inspires Generations: Empowering Africa’s Youth for the Next Phase of the Pan-African Revolution,” will feature President Museveni as the expected chief guest, according to Charles Sima Israel, the National Coordinator of Gen Z for Gen Museveni
The gathering is expected to bring together approximately 80 young Africans to discuss key issues, including youth empowerment, industrialisation, innovation, science and technology, and regional integration.
One of the major highlights of the gala will be the launch of Uhuru na Umoja, a Swahili phrase meaning freedom and unity. The initiative aims to promote East African integration by encouraging young people to participate in cross-border trade, entrepreneurship, technological innovation, and economic development.
Sima called on the younger generation to move beyond historical discussions and take an active role in Africa’s transformation through production, innovation, and value addition.
Reflecting on President Museveni’s political journey, Special Presidential Advisor on the Informal Sector Ian Gumisiriza highlighted his involvement in liberation struggles and his rise to the presidency in 1986.
Meanwhile, Ritah Faith Nansasi, Head of Legal Services at the Uganda Retirement Benefits Regulatory Authority (UBRA), highlighted a licensed retirement savings scheme designed for informal sector workers.
Nansasi encouraged boda boda riders, market vendors, salon workers, and other informal sector employees to embrace retirement saving, even when their incomes are irregular, to secure their financial future.
Event organiser Amos Mwasigye said the gala is being organised in partnership with Family TV Uganda and other stakeholders to celebrate President Museveni’s legacy and promote youth participation in shaping Africa’s future.
The event will focus on peace, wealth creation, innovation, unity, regional integration, and youth empowerment. Organisers are calling on young Africans to become active participants in the continent’s economic and social transformation.
The gala is expected to provide a platform for young people to exchange ideas, explore opportunities, and discuss their role in advancing Africa’s development.
