KAMPALA, September 17, 2026 — Kampala
Metropolitan Police conducted targeted night operations across several areas of Kampala and Wakiso District to prevent and disrupt criminal activities.
The operations, which were conducted between 10:00 p.m. on September 16 and 5:00 a.m. on September 17, resulted in the arrest of 123 suspects and the recovery of several exhibits, including suspected narcotic drugs and shisha pots.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, police at Katwe conducted operations in Lusaka, Nkere and Nabisalu zones in Makindye Division, Kampala District. The operation resulted in the arrest of 70 suspects and targeted identified crime hotspots and areas where suspected criminals were believed to reside.
In a separate operation, police at Kabalagala carried out an operation in Kibuli, Bunga, Muyenga and Nsambya parishes in Makindye Division, arresting 33 suspects.
Meanwhile, police in Nansana conducted operations in Gganda and Nsumbi in Wakiso District, targeting suspected hardcore criminals and individuals allegedly involved in the promotion and use of opium within the division. The operation led to the arrest of 20 male suspects.
The suspects arrested in connection with the possession of opium were found with the substance and charged with possession of narcotic drugs, specifically opium.
All the suspects remain in police custody pending court proceedings.
Police have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for members of the public. Intelligence gathering and monitoring operations are continuing across the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
