Tooro Kingdom has announced restrictions on food items that will be brought to Karuzika for the Empango ceremony of the new Omukama, Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, scheduled for September 29, 2026.
Moses Musinguzi, spokesperson for the Empango organising committee, said items including pigs, chickens, goats, sweet potatoes, cassava and beans will not be allowed into the Karuzika grounds because of the significance and high profile of the ceremony.
Musinguzi appealed to well-wishers and other supporters who wish to contribute to the preparations to instead provide acceptable forms of assistance to ensure the event is successfully organised.
He also called on the nine counties that make up the Tooro Kingdom to contribute at least Shs1 million and two cows each, in addition to other food supplies, to support feeding the thousands of guests expected to attend the ceremony.
The Empango will mark an important royal occasion as Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I officially celebrates his reign as Omukama of Tooro. The ceremony is expected to attract guests from across the kingdom and beyond.
