Today, Federation of Uganda Traders Associations FUTA held a meeting with the Prime Minister and other relevant stakeholders to discuss compensation for traders affected by the floods.
According to Lwegaba Moses, as traders in futa, we verified 21 buildings in total, including Owino. The ISO team had verified 13 buildings, but they have now presented a list covering 14 buildings, with Owino having been concluded.
This leaves six buildings pending verification and consideration. These are:
Original Shauriyako
Gagawala Shauriyako
Mk Plaza
Ziba Arcade
Farmers Center
harms Shopping Grounds
The government has indicated that these six buildings are still under review and research.
A committee will be established to handle the outstanding issues and determine the way forward.
Lwegaba says, “we have been assured that within approximately three weeks, there should be a positive response regarding these pending buildings”.
“We are grateful to see that you have accepted our prayer. This is our humble request to all traders: please hold off on the planned demonstration for now”.

The president of Federation of Uganda Traders Associations (FUTA) John kabanda says,we understand the difficulties you have been going through. Many of you do not have money to take your children to school, buy food, or pay rent. Some traders have already been forced to vacate their shops because of these challenges.
“We truly understand your suffering and frustration.
However, we humbly ask all traders to listen to us as your leaders.
Kabanda added that you proceed with a demonstration at this time, the authorities and officials may think that we, as your leaders, are the ones encouraging or pushing you to demonstrate.
This could make it more difficult for us to resolve the situation.
John kabanda urged the traders to be remain patient and hold on for now. We are committed to ensuring that you receive the money that is owed to you.
“We will continue working hand in hand with you and the relevant authorities until this matter is resolved and you are satisfied.
“We understand that you have waited for a long time, and we do not take your suffering lightly. We are asking for your cooperation and patience as we work toward a solution.
