Police in Kassanda District are investigating a brutal aggravated robbery in which a couple was attacked at their home in Lukira village, Myanzi Sub-county, leading to the death of Ssali Joseph, 48, and later the recovery of his wife Mariza Regina’s body, which was found half-buried in a garden in neighbouring Kyaseta village.

According to SSP L. Kigozi, spokesperson for Wamala Region, the attack happened on the night of 2 July 2026, when unknown robbers broke into the residence where the couple lived and worked for their employer, Lukwago, taking care of his gardens and animals.
Kigozi said neighbours first noticed stray cows wandering in the area on the morning of 3 July and alerted the village chairperson, who led residents to the house, where they found signs of a violent struggle and blood stains.
The assailants used sharp and blunt objects suspected to be a hammer and a panga to murder the victim,” Kigozi said, adding that the suspects reportedly stole money and seven sacks of coffee before fleeing on motorcycles.
He said a police dog was unable to track the attackers because it was “a little late,” and that detectives are still working to arrest those responsible.
