The Ministry of Health has declared Uganda free of the deadly viral Ebola disease.
The announcement came Tuesday from Dr. Chris Baryomunsi in Kampala, following no new cases since the last patient was discharged on June 16.
The declaration was also confirmed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Diana Atwine today, Tuesday, July 28, 2026 on her X-Handle.
This outbreak, sparked by a single importation from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, saw 20 confirmed cases and two deaths, all traced back with no community spread thanks to swift quarantines and monitoring.
Officials praised health workers and surveillance teams for containing it quickly, drawing on Uganda’s long experience with the virus while calling for neighboring countries to ease travel alerts.
