Media personality Douglas Lwanga has highlighted the growing challenges affecting Uganda’s entertainment industry, pointing to stiff competition among entertainment spots, difficulties in hosting events and the changing dynamics of streaming platforms and online concerts.

Lwanga noted that event organisers and entertainment businesses are finding it increasingly difficult to keep audiences engaged and spending money in one place, as revellers have more venues to choose from.
“You could invite your rich friends to the night you’ve hosted, but you can’t really keep them in one bar all night,” he argued.
He explained that the growing number of entertainment spots has created a highly competitive environment in which people are constantly moving from one venue to another in search of different experiences.
This trend presents a challenge for event organisers and bar owners who depend on customers staying longer and spending more to make their businesses profitable.
Lwanga’s remarks also point to broader changes in Uganda’s entertainment industry, where traditional events are facing pressure to adapt to the growing influence of digital platforms, streaming services and online concerts.
As competition for audiences intensifies, industry players are increasingly challenged to find sustainable ways of attracting revellers, retaining their attention and generating revenue in an evolving entertainment market.
