The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has handed over Ebola response equipment to Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) worth Shs.3.4 billion. The equipment include; 66 automated sanitizer dispensers plus thermo scanners.
Ebola broke out early last month and so far two Congolese nationals have died in Uganda from Bundibugyo district. On the other hand, 14 out of the 19 Ebola Cases are imported while 5 are local cases.

In a bid to contain the disease from spreading further, the International Organization for Migration has come up to support Ebola interventions at Entebbe International Airport with support from the U.S. Bureau of Global Health Security and Diplomacy (GHSD).
While handing over the donated equipment to Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), on Friday, 12th June, 2026, the Chief of Missions at International Organization for Migration, Uganda, Sanusi Tejan Savage said the equipment will greatly help in surveillance so as to deal with any suspected cases of Ebola at Entebbe International Airport.
The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Uganda, Leonard Zulu, is hopeful that the donated equipment will expedite screening of passengers on top of strengthening Ebola surveillance at Entebbe International Airport.
The Permanent secretary at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Diana Atwiine, revealed that so far her ministry has registered 800 contacts but 400 of them have been discharged after completing the mandatory 21 days in isolation while the remaining contacts will be discharged next week. She, however said her ministry has intensified screening especially at border entries in Western Uganda.
The newly appointed Minister of Heath, Dr. Chris Baryomynsi, appreciated the donation and tasked the authority to look after the equipment properly. He also pledged to establish emergency response centers in Democratic Republic of Congo so as to reduce the risk of Ebola transmission.
The Acting Director General Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), Olive Birungi Lumonya, noted that the equipment come at the time when the authority is under pressure after some airlines such as Air Arabia and Fly Dubai suspended air travellers from Uganda over Ebola threats.
