KAMPALA, Uganda — Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested three suspected members of a gang believed to be behind a series of robberies targeting people carrying large sums of money on motorcycles in areas of Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) East.
The arrests follow investigations into a robbery that occurred on August 17, 2026, along Bukoto Heights, where a cashier from Tilupati was allegedly attacked by two people travelling on a motorcycle while she was on her way to the bank.
The suspects reportedly grabbed her bag containing approximately Shs 22 million before fleeing the scene. The case was registered at Kira Road Police Station.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, police arrested two suspects on September 19, 2026, and recovered a motorcycle believed to have been used in the robberies.
On September 24, police arrested another suspect and recovered two additional motorcycles.
The three suspects have been identified as Byanyima Sadic, Waibale Joseph and Kisongode Ivan. Police allege that the suspects participated in the robberies as motorcycle riders.
Preliminary investigations have also linked the suspects to other robbery incidents. These include the alleged theft of approximately Shs 10 million from a person carrying money from a bank in the Mpererwe area in January 2026.
Police are also investigating their alleged connection to a robbery involving a Nigerian national near the US Embassy area on August 24, 2026.
Police have so far impounded four motorcycles believed to have been used by the suspected gang. They are registered as UMA 366LZ, UMA 018MX, UMA 073NP and UMA 018NX, all reportedly of the Haojue make.
Investigations indicate that the suspected gang may have operated with the assistance of other individuals who are still at large. Police say efforts are underway to identify and arrest the remaining suspects and establish their alleged roles in the crimes.
The three suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Police say they will be taken to court once the necessary inquiries have been completed.
Kampala Metropolitan Police has reassured the public that operations targeting criminal gangs involved in robberies of people carrying money and other valuables are ongoing.
Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.
