KAMPALA, Uganda — Police have warned the public to observe movement restrictions scheduled for Saturday’s National Cleaning Day, saying the guidelines issued by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) remain in force.

Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said security personnel would once again be deployed to enforce compliance with the guidelines, urging members of the public to plan their journeys and other activities in advance to avoid unnecessary confrontations with officers.

Speaking to journalists at Police Headquarters in Naguru on Monday, Kituuma reiterated that the restricted movement hours of 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. would remain unchanged.

He added that exemptions would continue to apply to the same categories of people who had previously been granted waivers under the existing guidelines.

“This was just a public reminder that this Saturday, again, you will be seeing us as security firmly deployed in respect to the National Cleaning Day. The guidelines that were issued by OPM still stand,” Kituuma said.

He urged the public to cooperate with security personnel during the exercise and avoid actions that could lead to confrontations.

“Our priority is to ensure that you do not get into any altercations with our officers. Plan your journeys and other activities in time,” he advised.

National Cleaning Day is a public sanitation initiative aimed at encouraging communities to participate in cleaning their surroundings and improving hygiene in public spaces.

The Office of the Prime Minister issued guidelines governing the observance of the exercise, including restrictions on movement between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., with exemptions for authorised categories of people.

Police have maintained that security deployments are intended to support the implementation of the guidelines and ensure compliance throughout the exercise.

Members of the public are therefore advised to familiarise themselves with the applicable restrictions, confirm whether they qualify for any exemptions and make the necessary travel arrangements before Saturday’s exercise.
