Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) is shifting gears again, this time with a harder edge on trade order and a clearer push for how the city should look, move, and function.

Speaking at the Media Centre today, Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki outlined a series of coordinated interventions by KCCA aimed at restoring order, improving service delivery, and strengthening the city’s economic foundation.

From operations against illegal vending in the city to the quiet but powerful demand that property owners take greater responsibility for the condition of their frontages, an emerging standard aimed at improving cleanliness, safety, drainage, and the overall visual identity of the city. Starting June, enforcement begins, and compliance will no longer be optional.

Beyond enforcement, the city is witnessing a surge in economic formalization, with over 22,000 new business licenses issued within a few months.

On the transport front, Kampala is preparing for a major shift with the introduction of electric buses under a pilot program by Kiira Motors Corporation. The initiative is expected to improve mobility, reduce congestion, and support cleaner, more sustainable urban transport.

These interventions reflect a broader effort to reimagine Kampala as a cleaner, more organized, and efficient city where development is not only about infrastructure, but also about responsibility, compliance, and shared urban standards.
