Police have arrested Joshua Muhumuza in connection with the alleged murder of three-year-old Dartiva Rosarie Kyomuhendo in Kayebe-Kikuuma Village, Gayaza, within Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District, following claims that he killed the child after her parents failed to meet his demand for money.

Muhumuza, who was reportedly preparing for his wedding, is alleged to have abducted the toddler and later demanded money from her parents. According to accounts surrounding the incident, the child was killed after the parents failed to provide the money he had requested.
Police said investigations into the case are ongoing, with Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire confirming Muhumuza’s arrest.
Residents reportedly began suspecting Muhumuza after recalling that he was the last person seen with the missing child. When questioned, he allegedly denied involvement in her disappearance.
Suspicion reportedly intensified after Muhumuza sent messages to the child’s parents demanding money and directing them to where the body could be found. The incident was subsequently reported to police, leading to his arrest.
According to reports, Muhumuza allegedly confessed to killing the child during police questioning. He is also alleged to have sexually abused her before her death. These allegations are yet to be established through the ongoing investigations and court proceedings.

Owoyesigire confirmed that police had arrested the suspect and said investigations had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
The incident has left residents of Kayebe-Kikuuma shocked as police continue investigating the circumstances of the alleged abduction, ransom demand and murder.
