The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations (SPA/SO), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has appointed Brig Gen Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru as the Acting Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC).
In a statement issued on Monday, August 3, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) announced that Brig Gen Nyakikuru has also been granted the acting rank of Major General, with both the appointment and promotion taking immediate effect.
Acting Major General Nyakikuru replaces Major General David Mugisha, who is expected to leave his current position in the coming months to pursue a course at the National Defence College (NDC) abroad as part of his strategic military training.
The UPDF commended Major General Mugisha for his service at the helm of the elite Special Forces Command, praising his leadership during his tenure.
“The UPDF thanks Major General David Mugisha for the outstanding tour of duty as Commander SFC and wishes him good luck in his strategic security studies,” the statement read.
The military also congratulated Acting Major General Nyakikuru on his appointment and promotion, expressing confidence in his ability to lead one of the country’s most strategic military formations.
“We also congratulate Acting Major General Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru on his deserved appointment and promotion. We wish him good luck in his new duties,” the statement added.
The announcement was made by Colonel Chris Magezi, the Acting Director of Defence Public Information at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA/UPDF).
The Special Forces Command is an elite unit of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces responsible for providing security to the President, safeguarding key national installations, and undertaking specialised military operations both within and outside Uganda.
