Kampala Metropolitan Police have recovered eight stolen cows and arrested three suspects following an operation at a cattle market in Nkonjeru Cell, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.

According to police, on 8th July 2026 at about 9:00 a.m., three men arrived at the cattle market with the eight cows they intended to sell. Market leaders grew suspicious and alerted police, who responded swiftly, arrested the suspects, and recovered the animals.

The suspects have been identified as Steven Kamukama, 52, Amons Katongle, 32, and Patrick Musinguzi, 44, all residents of Sembabule District.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the cattle were allegedly stolen from the kraal of Charles Mulindwa in Mutima Sub-county, Sembabule District. The complainant has since positively identified all the recovered cows as his property.

Police further established that the suspects were allegedly using forged animal movement permits to transport the animals in a white Mitsubishi Canter, registration number UBQ 181U. The vehicle has been recovered and is parked at Kyengera Police Station. The driver fled the scene and is currently being sought.

The recovered cattle have been placed under the custody of the market kraal management pending completion of legal procedures.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said investigations are ongoing to apprehend the driver and to establish whether the suspects are linked to other cases of cattle theft.

He commended the vigilance of the market leadership and members of the public whose timely information led to the recovery, and urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
