Former Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer Peter Elwelu has reportedly been arrested by security forces in Soroti City over alleged involvement in subversive activities and plans to destabilise the Teso sub-region.
According to information provided by security sources, Elwelu was arrested this evening after reportedly being on the run over allegations linked to activities considered a threat to security and stability in the region.
His arrest follows an earlier recovery of 15 firearms allegedly found in his possession, alongside military uniforms and two pickup trucks. The items were reportedly recovered by security forces during investigations into his alleged activities.
Security authorities are expected to take Elwelu through the relevant legal processes, with prosecution anticipated in courts of law over the allegations against him.
The arrest is expected to draw attention to ongoing security concerns in the Teso sub-region, where authorities have emphasised the need to maintain peace and stability.
However, the allegations against Elwelu remain subject to investigation and determination by the courts of law.
