Kira Ssaabaddu County Chief, Paul Ssegawa, has called on residents of Kira to actively participate in county programmes aimed at strengthening the Buganda Kingdom.
Ssegawa, who represented the Ssaabaddu of Kira and also serves as chairperson of the committee coordinating donations to the Kabaka, made the remarks after appreciating the contributions made by residents, which are eventually delivered to Mengo.
He said the only way to promote the development of the Buganda Kingdom is by supporting programmes initiated by Mengo to mobilise funds and other forms of support from the Kabaka’s subjects.
Ssegawa noted that Ssaabaddu Kira County has continued to perform well among the counties of Buganda in delivering contributions to Mengo, attributing the achievement to the commitment of residents who have consistently given generously to the Kingdom.
He urged residents to build on their previous efforts to achieve their fundraising targets and called for continued support towards the budget set by the county committee. He also thanked Jimmy Lukwago for hosting the delegation at his home and supporting the fundraising campaign.
Ssegawa made the remarks at the home of businessman, sports promoter and politician Jimmy Lukwago, popularly known as Kira Young, in Bulabira Village, Najjeera, Kira Municipality.
The delegation of Kabaka’s subjects from Ssaabaddu Kira County visited Lukwago as part of the county’s fundraising drive to raise contributions that will be delivered to Mengo on Wednesday, September 23, during the upcoming programme at Mengo Palace.
During the event, Lukwago donated more than Shs3 million, equivalent to two cows, towards the fundraising initiative.
He urged residents to keep politics separate from matters concerning Buganda, stating that the political season had ended. Lukwago further called on the county leadership to involve him in its programmes, saying he was ready to support initiatives aimed at strengthening the Buganda Kingdom.
Among those who attended the event were Allan Bulamu Mayor Dentine, his deputy Shamim Nakandi, Kira Division Chairperson Gerald Kizito, Kira Municipality Speaker Bosco Byomuhangi, and councillors from Kira Municipality, Namugongo, Kira and Bweyogerere, among others.
Following the event, Lukwago hosted the guests to a meal and refreshments. The attendees pledged their continued support for the programmes of Ssaabaddu Kira County aimed at strengthening the Buganda Kingdom.
