President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commissioned new accommodation facilities for 518 Special Forces Command (SFC) personnel in Nakasero, Kampala, as part of efforts to improve the welfare, discipline and operational readiness of Uganda’s armed forces.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Museveni said the investment reflected the principle that institutions should prioritise essential needs and develop according to available resources.
He explained that the National Resistance Army (NRA) initially prioritised weapons and training before gradually investing in soldiers’ welfare and accommodation as resources increased.
The President also stressed the importance of housing soldiers in organised barracks, saying proper accommodation contributes to military discipline, welfare and strategic readiness.
State House Comptroller Jane Barekye said the project began in 2023 and was completed in 2025. The two dormitory blocks provide accommodation for 518 people.
The Commander of the SFC, Maj. Gen. Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru, welcomed the investment, saying improved accommodation would support the morale and effectiveness of military personnel. He urged occupants to maintain the facilities properly.
Technical adviser Prof. John Stanley Ralph Senfuma said the project was completed by Ugandan workers and that quality standards had been maintained. He also emphasised the importance of regular maintenance and adequate budgeting to preserve the buildings.
President Museveni commended State House officials, consultants, contractors and SFC personnel for their contribution to the project.
