NRM Woman MP for Ssembabule District Florence Nambaziira has told the Masaka High Court that she never sat the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) or the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), revealing that her qualification is a hairdressing certificate obtained from Mengo Youth Vocational Centre through the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT).

The disclosure emerged during a parliamentary election petition filed by Mary Begumisa, who defeated Nambaziira in the January 2026 elections with 61,638 votes. The petition challenges whether Nambaziira’s vocational qualification satisfies the academic requirements for election to Parliament.
Following the revelation, Justice Christine Akello directed the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) to appear before the court within two days to explain the academic equivalence certificate issued to Nambaziira.
The court is expected to examine whether the qualification and the equivalence certificate meet the legal requirements for parliamentary eligibility.
The proceedings could prove significant in determining the validity of Nambaziira’s qualifications and the outcome of the election petition. The court’s findings will clarify whether her vocational training meets the prescribed academic standards for a Member of Parliament in Uganda.
