At least 22 people have been rescued following the collapse of a four-storey building under construction at Holy City Church, Brother Ronnies Ministries, in Bwerenga, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District.

Police in Entebbe confirmed the incident, saying rescue operations were ongoing as emergency teams worked to establish whether more people remained trapped beneath the rubble.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, the rescued victims were being evacuated to Entebbe Grade B Hospital for medical attention.

Police said efforts were still underway to search the debris and account for anyone who might have been inside the building at the time of the collapse.

Building had reached fourth floor

Preliminary findings indicate that the collapsed structure was an extension of the main church building and had reached the fourth floor before the incident occurred.

The circumstances surrounding the collapse remain unclear, with police saying investigations are ongoing to establish the cause.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the total number of people who were at the site when the building came down or whether there are additional casualties.

Rescue operations continue

Rescue teams were continuing to search the rubble amid concerns that more people could still be trapped beneath the debris.

Police said further details would be provided as efforts to establish the full extent of the incident continued.

The cause of the collapse and the circumstances under which the building was being constructed are expected to form part of the ongoing investigations.
